Addictions

Alcohol Dependency and Substance Abuse

The Chinese have used acupuncture and Oriental medicine successfully to treat substance abuse for thousands of years.  A century ago, the Chinese used acupuncturists to help overcome opium addiction.  In the 1970s, rock stars in the United States and England turned to acupuncture to treat their addictions to alcohol and drugs.  Today, a hospital in New York City serves 900 addicts daily using acupuncture as the primary treatment protocol.  In Texas, Westlake Clinic has become an oasis for people seeking treatment for their addictions to alcohol and their substance abuse problems. We see patients twice a week for an initial series of 12 weeks, followed by weekly visits as long as required to correct the physical and emotional imbalances that create unhealthy dependencies.

Quit Smoking Program

Addictions of all kinds respond well to acupuncture. We have had particular success treating patients who want to quit smoking.  Dr. Marion has trained acupuncturists in stop-smoking treatments since the 1970s and has lectured widely on the topic at medical conventions.

The treatment plan combines acupuncture with stress management, Chinese herbal medicines and herbal teas.  Some patients are able to quit during the three-month beginner’s series; others require more time to shed a deeply entrenched addiction.  Most graduates of our “quit smoking” program find that ending their addiction is less painful and far less frustrating than they had feared.  A common reaction:  “If I had known it was this easy, I would have quit long ago.”
