Natural Weight Loss Program
Our natural weight loss program provides a good illustration of a core principle of Oriental medicine and acupuncture: Success requires a partnership between doctor and patient blending the doctor’s skill, knowledge, and concern with the patient’s commitment to his/her recovery and health. That means, among other things, a commitment by the patient to follow the nutritional guidelines and exercise requirements, to take the herbal prescriptions, and to practice the stress management techniques that complement the acupuncture treatments.
Stress and depression are the most common causes of the over-eating that leads to excessive weight gain. Acupuncture facilitates weight loss by balancing the appetite so that patients avoid reacting to stress by eating more than they should. Nutritional counseling helps patients design and follow a healthy diet that will achieve and sustain a desirable weight. Exercise helps to promote and sustain weight loss by burning calories and by improving physical health and well-being. Patients who feel better about themselves are less likely to use food to “treat” stress or sadness.
We typically see weight loss patients twice weekly for 12 weeks, but the number of treatments required ultimately depends on how much weight the patient wants to lose, how much they improve their diet, and how consistently they take their herbal medications and follow their stress management and exercise plans.
