Stress Management
Many of today’s common health problems are related directly to stress. That is why stress management is an essential component of the treatments we prescribe. Acupuncture balances the entire system – the equivalent of a deep tissue massage that relaxes the body at its core. The goal is not just to relieve stress temporarily, but to give patients the tools they need to manage stress permanently on their own.
These tools include a healthy diet, regular exercise (we recommend an hour daily), and the practice of yoga, tai-chi, meditation, or other relaxation techniques. The Japanese say, “You must have your Masters degree in stress management by age 13 and your PhD by age 18.” The Western world views stress as an unavoidable by-product of the competition and achievement that we value. Oriental medicine recognizes that stress is a pollutant, like automobile emissions, that must be reduced and controlled.
